Can you tell me about your journey into the securities finance industry?

My journey began with a fusion of engineering and finance. During my studies at ENS Paris-Saclay, I deepened my understanding of disciplines such as statistics, probabilities, and computer science applied to financial mathematics, which ignited my interest in financial systems.

Joining Murex allowed me to apply this technical foundation to securities finance, implementing MX.3 front-to-back modules like agency lending. The industry’s blend of quantitative rigor and real-world impact captivated me, especially the challenge of translating complex client needs into scalable fintech solutions.

As a young professional, what aspects of your role or the industry do you find most exciting?

Embracing change driven by market conditions that foster innovation. I am also excited by the challenges present in this cutting-edge industry. I love the dynamism of fintech innovation! At Murex, I work on innovative projects like stablecoin integration for a digital repo.

Collaborating with front-office traders to validate P&L and troubleshooting real-time pricing issues keep me energised. The industry’s rapid evolution — especially with new regulations (e.g. T+1 settlement), new products (e.g. intraday repo) and the fulgurant emergence of cryptoassets — means every day brings new puzzles to solve, turning theoretical models into tangible tools for investment banks.

Many companies offer various training and development opportunities for their employees. How has your company supported your growth?

Murex fosters growth through hands-on ownership. I have led end-to-end module implementations — from writing specifications to user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensuring seamless client delivery and post-implementation support — which sharpened my expertise in securities finance products.

Regular cross-team workshops and access to MX.3’s latest features (e.g. multicollateral optimiser for repos) keep me ahead of trends. Additionally, client-facing roles have honed my ability to demystify technical concepts for stakeholders, turning challenges into collaborative wins.

What misconceptions about working in the financial industry have you encountered, and how do you address these challenges?

One myth is that finance is purely transactional and materialistic. In reality, it is deeply human; success hinges on translating nuanced client needs into robust systems. Another is that risk management is static, but tools and market landscape evolve constantly. We address this at Murex by emphasising agility. For example, adapting certain modules for crypto assets required rethinking traditional frameworks and plugging into cutting-edge APIs, proving innovation thrives at the intersection of technology and finance.

Looking ahead, where do you see yourself in the next five years in terms of your career goals and aspirations?

I aim to pioneer the next generation of fintech infrastructures. In the short term, I will deepen my mastery of securities lending and exotic products pricing, and leverage my software engineer background to become more proficient. Long-term, I envision leading strategic implementations that redefine efficiency, such as AI-augmented risk analytics or seamless decentralised finance (DeFi) integration. Ultimately, I want to mentor emerging talent, sharing lessons from MX.3 deployments to shape a more resilient, transparent digital finance.

What advice do you have for other young professionals aspiring to pursue a career in your industry?

Embrace interdisciplinary learning! Having an engineering major does not necessarily limit you if you want to build a successful career in finance. Master both finance fundamentals (e.g. pricing models) and technology tools like Python and C++. Build pet projects — like an algorithmic trading prototype if you love taking very measured risks — to test theories in practice. Seek roles that expose you to client interactions. Understanding their pain points is key. Finally, stay curious: follow trends from crypto to regulatory technology. This field rewards those who bridge domains.
