The Íø±¬³Ô¹Ï and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it will host a roundtable on 17 September 2026 to discuss moving towards 24-hour trading in the US equity markets.

The news follows a decision by the London Stock Exchange to launch a new 24/5 trading venue, LSE 24, to support the next generation of digital, algorithmic, and agentic trading.

The SEC roundtable discussion will address preparations for overnight trading, operations and resiliency in a 24-hour market, and expansion opportunities and challenges.

SEC Chairman, Paul. S Atkins, states: “We are moving towards a new day – and night – in the US equity markets.

“With the expansion to overnight trading, I’m excited at the prospect of US equity markets aligning with those markets that already trade continuously and look forward to balancing round-the-clock trading with all-important investor and customer protections.â€

The roundtable will be accessible to the public and hosted at the SEC’s headquarters at 100 F Street, N.E., Washington, D.C.

The discussion will be live streamed on SEC.gov, and a recording will be made available at a later date.

Information regarding the roundtable’s agenda and speakers will be shared in due course.

Members of the public who wish to provide their views on 24-hour trading may submit their comments electronically or on paper.
